Child & Adolescent Psychologist Perth
Child and Adolescent Mental Health
With children’s mental health, it can be difficult to determine when something is developmentally appropriate, a transient concern, or something that requires intervention. When deciding this, psychologists will often consider a child’s age and development, and whether symptoms have an impact on daily functioning at school or at home.
Intervening early with a course of therapy can improve children’s lives, allowing them to reengage in what’s important such as school, friendships and extracurricular activities. Treatment can also prevent more extensive mental health problems in later years, and children can take coping skills they have learnt well into adulthood. There can also be flow on effects for the rest of the household who are living with and supporting the young person.
