Frequently asked Questions

How much does a session cost?

The session fee is $255 for a 50-minute consultation and is payable on the day of the appointment. Session fees may occasionally vary depending on the service provided. For further information, please contact us.

If you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) referral from your doctor, the rebate per session will be $145.25. Medicare rebates may be claimed on the day of your appointment.

What is a Mental Health Care Plan?

Mental Health Care Plans (MHCP) are provided by a GP, or you can also be referred under one by your psychiatrist or paediatrician. Under a MHCP, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for up to ten individual sessions in a calendar year, however you will need a re-referral after each course of treatment (initially after six sessions).

I am also registered with several health funds and private health rebates may be claimed on the day of your session. The availability of private health rebate will depend on your individual level of cover.

You can also self-refer and therefore don’t need a GP referral to start therapy.

What should I expect from my first appointment?

When you book your appointment, there will be some forms and measures sent to you to complete prior to coming into the clinic. The first appointment is about meeting you and gathering important assessment information. At the end of the session, we will discuss a plan for treatment and some first steps. I aim to take a collaborative approach to therapy which is focused on your individual goals. We will begin therapy at the second appointment.

Sessions are available in person at the Ardross clinic or by telehealth.

What types of therapy do you use?

The main therapeutic approaches I work from are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am also informed by Schema Therapy, Family Therapy and Circle of Security. I may give you some tasks to take away in between our appointments to practice skills and goals discussed during the session.

What is your cancellation fee?

I understand that sometimes appointments need to be changed. My cancellation fee is $55 and is charged if appointments are cancelled or changed within 48 hours of your appointment and cannot be filled. Cancellation fees are not covered by Medicare. Your appointment time is reserved for you and the frequency of sessions is planned as part of treatment planning. Appointments can be rescheduled by calling us on (08) 6388 8300.
