Your journey to falling pregnant and having a baby can be a time of mixed emotions including excitement, joy, relief, anxiety, jealousy and uncertainty. For some the journey may be unexpected, whereas for others it is a long road with many ups and downs.
Adjusting to one of the biggest life changes can involve shifts in your identity, your role, and within your relationship. A lack of sleep can add another layer on top. It can also be a time where previous mental health concerns emerge again, and when you reflect on your own childhood.
Having a second child can also present different thoughts and feelings as women might think about their relationship with their child and partner changing, how the children might get along, and negotiating responsibilities between parents. You also now know what having a child looks like and the perspective this brings you. There may also be a juggle between different areas like work and family life, as you identify a new status quo.
They say it takes a village! It’s important that women support other women through this journey.
